I love Minnesota. I don’t really mind the cold so much. What makes winter last so long are the gray days of February and March. The days are longer without the birds and the fresh lake breezes. Just like I find relief from the heat during the summer with a blizzard watercolor painting, I’m thinking I need some green. Time for a Florida watercolor painting.
Going to Florida, Miami maybe, sounds so refreshing about now. Growing up, we spent a lot of time in Florida. Lots of happy memories. A trip down south sounds great. An opportunity to stay in one of the swanky Miami hotels, sipping cocktails poolside would be such a welcome change of color. That’s what we artists are all about, after all. We like color and lots of it. That’s what I miss.
Maybe I’d make it a spa vacation with plenty of time at the beach to listen to the ocean and do some plein air painting. That would be my idea of a great vacation. I miss the colors of spring and summer. My sap green and cadmium yellow are getting lonely. I haven’t been one for floral paintings, but to capture the vibrant greens of trees and foliage fits well in my comfort zone.
The forecast in Minnesota is for windchills below zero and scattered snow showers. Maybe it’s about time I make those travel reservations.

I just enjoy your post here. The weather in cold climates sure can make for a dreary time. One of my favorite things to do is bundle up in a nice warm blanket and drink a warm cup of cocoa.
Thanks for sharing.
