 |  Category: Marketing  | Tags:

Today’s marketing meeting is about making money. We all want more. For artists, sales have an added plus that goes beyond the bank. We look at art sales as a measure of the value of our work. Of course, the degree varies with the individual, but certainly a sale is positive reinforcement of our creativity.

Many of us reaped the benefits of the good old days of eBay. It allowed us to reach audiences nationwide and worldwide. In today’s Web 2.0 world, Twitter gives artists similar benefits. We can communicate not only with other artists, but reach new audiences in a very exciting and fast-paced fashion. What’s not to love about negotiating a commission with someone who like your avatar? Here are some tips for using Twitter to make art sales.

Connect your blog and your tweeting.
Make sure and set up your blog so that new posts are being tweeted. This is especially important if you use your blog as a sales tool, writing about your work and sharing techniques and information.

Tweet about new listings.
Whether you’re adding content to your website or you’re adding a listing on an art site, make sure the word gets out. Tweet about your new listing with a URL.

Host your own “open studio” day.
Announce an open studio day. Share pictures of your work and also your works in progress. Take questions about your art and techniques. Share your studio with your followers.

Tweet a contest.
Offer a painting or print as a contest giveaway. Tweet about it on Twitter to create buzz. Don’t forget to tweet about it during the final hours of the contest to get those last minute entries–and additions to your mailing list. Of course, if you intend to use collected email addresses for a mailing list, make this very clear to visitors.

Twitter is such a great way to connect. The emphasis is on quick and to the point. Give your followers good content, and it will likely translate into more art sales.
