Today’s Monday Marketing Meeting is about search engine optimization, or SEO, as it relates to your blog. My comments focus on self-hosted WordPress blogs, but the concepts apply no matter what platform you are using. Taking the time to review your blog can help you get the SEO results you want. Without further ado, SEO tips for your blog.
Post regularly.
This is a no-brainer if you’re trying to create traffic to your blog and/or make money blogging. Anyone who has blogged for any length of time knows that it takes time and effort to create a readership. With blogs, people like consistency. Your aim, after all, is to create anticipation in your readers. Make them want the next post.
Plan your keyword strategy.
Decide what your keywords are before you start writing. Doing so helps you focus on using them throughout your text. For added SEO punch, use your keyword at the very least, in your title. Also for added emphasis, bold or italicize keywords. This sends a message to crawlers that these words are more important. Also, don’t forget headings.
Always include tags in your posts.
Tags help your posts get found. WordPress has a handy little plugin that allows you to check tags and edit or add as necessary. A quick glance and you can easily fill in any gaps.
SEO is always a work in progress. As long as you write, your optimization work is never done. Planning ahead for your SEO with a good keyword strategy will help you achieve the results you’re looking for.
